What To Do At Night In Orlando

Well...there's shopping....

OK, shame on me, that sounded a bit caustic, didn't it. What a shame, truth hurts! But let's run with it anyway.

What IS interesting, and surprisingly, you can do it for free, is pay a visit to Universal Studio's Citywalk.

City Walk is Universal’s night time entertainment complex. It offers an array of fun places to visit such as Pat O’Brien’s Pub, or dancing in one of their adult nightclubs. There is the typical Hard Rock, which wild horses couldn’t drag me or my children to, and a vast range of over-priced restaurants and shops. But setting all that aside, it actually IS interesting to see.

Citywalk is outside the actual Universal Theme Park which allows people to have more fun without buying yet another admission ticket to Universal. If you guys do consider going to Universal, Disney, or any of the other attractions, please take my heartfelt recommendation and go join AAA first, then you can buy the tickets at substantial discounts. You’d need to call me in advance so I could give you a US address to use. But then the membership could be extended to hotel stays, etc.

If you want to do something typical of tourism you could drive over to International Drive and visit one of the night time Putt Putt Golf courses, or the race cart centre, or even the paint ball arcade. I don't know if you're picking up on a general theme here, but this is what Orlando tourism is. And it's nothing more.

Back to night stuff...in typical American fashion...since we've already talked about shopping, let's move on to more eating.

I want to repeat something about food and cleanliness standards in America. You will NOT encounter any problems in any place you go. The standards are above and beyond anywhere in the world. The nation is so paranoid about being sued that everything runs to exacting standards.

I realise you've already had a nudge from us about the lobster experience in Boston, but please allow me to briefly stay on a seafood theme. Keep in mind you're surrounded by water and the seafood can't be any fresher and you will love the service. Welcome to Red Lobster of America!

I need to follow a theme with you; just because it's called Red Lobster, it doesn't mean all they sell is lobster. And I will repeat this thought when I introduce you to the Waffle House. (get the point?)

The Red Lobster is located on International Drive. You may either take a taxi there (about $7.00) or drive your car. I know you will eat early which is actually good because otherwise, you might have to wait up to 45 minutes to get seated. That's how popular it is. I love their salads and sea bass. Mary likes the garlic shrimp and...of course...Willem loves the lobsters....I do too. But if you choose lobster, make sure you try a Florida lobster. It is extremely different than a New England Lobster (actually a crayfish of some sort), but it's sweeter in taste with more meat.

After dinner, you could waddle across the street and work off some of your dinner with a round of golf. Otherwise....well...there's 24 hour shopping at Walmart! Aggggh!
