North To St Augustine

Travel from Cape Canaveral (Kennedy) to St Augustine is exactly 100 miles. (under 2 hours).

I want you to see the best of Florida. Consequently, I would heartily recommend travelling via the original road that existed before America’s national highway system.

Highway A1A will take you straight to St Augustine. If you prefer endless miles of nothing but billboards and palm brush, then go over to interstate I-95.

But as a stopover, you might consider staying in New Smyrna Beach or north of Daytona. Daytona is where Florida’s key car racetrack is located. It is also the sight of teenagers escaping from school for ‘spring break.’ Dayton’s claim to fame is that it has more teenage deaths than any city in America due to drunkenness. (they jump off the second and third floor of hotel balconies into pools…and usually miss the pool!)

St. Augustine, America’s oldest city, holds the distinction of being one of the nation's most charming. Known as the "Ancient City," Saint Augustine offers quiet walks among an artist’s community and reflections of America’s historic past.
